United Nations Under Secretary General for Safety and Security visits Eritrea.

The United Nations Under Secretary General (USG) for the department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), Mr David Veness, paid two days (June 12-13/2006) exploratory visit to Eritrea. During his stay, Mr Veness has had meetings with H.E. Dr Woldai Futur, Minister of National Development, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea. In addition, the USG held discussions with the UN Country Team and donor partners.

In honour of the USG and his entourage the UN held a reception at Hotel Intercontinental, Asmara. Ambassadors, diplomats, UN Agency representatives and government officials were among the dignitaries who attended the reception.

The USG and his entourage departed from Asmara on the 14th of June 2006.
