As part of the national effort to strengthen the national capacity to introduce and promote renewable energy technologies the Ministry of Energy and Mines in collaboration with UNDP-Eritrea provided training to experts on “Technical and Managerial Training in Wind Energy Technology” between 27 October – 1 November 2008 . In the training three high level experts were invited from the Turkish Soytes Clean Energy and Electronics Industry CO, supplying the small decentralized wind turbines to the ongoing wind energy pilot project.
The training was attended by about 30 individuals from the host Ministry, the private sector and the Eritrean Electricity Corporation (EEC). In the event participants gained basic understanding in the engineering of wind turbine machines, its energy transformation cycles, and the technology's operation at different capacities. Participants additionally received associated managerial skills of conducting feasibility study, wind energy electricity commissioning and marketing, technology importation and procurement procedures as well. Besides catalyzing implementation of the Wind Energy Application Pilot Project, the training will safeguard in retaining a competent national capacity so that implement bigger projects in the future.
