CAPACITY BUILDING FOR TOURISM SECTOR

BACKGROUND

The Government of Eritrea is keenly aware of the importance of tourism for economic development and poverty alleviation. It developed its National Tourism Development Plan. The plan aims to conserve and enhance natural and cultural resources for tourism for continuous use in the future while bringing benefits to the present and future societies.

Eritrea as a young nation faced with major problems and constraints, one of which is a shortage of professional, skilled and semi-skilled human resources. Therefore, in order to optimize the contribution of tourism to the socio economic development of the country it is imperative to up grade the Tourism Industry in Eritrea.

OBJECTIVES

The project will support the Ministry of Tourism and Regional Offices in strengthening their institutional and human capacity to provide overall guidance, as well as, fostering the enabling environment for sustainable tourism development through the provision of the necessary equipment and training programs.  

PROJECT DETAILS

The project will assist the Government in the establishment of Regional Offices of the Ministry of Tourism by providing the necessary equipment and furniture for proper planning, data collection and knowledge sharing. In addition, assistance will be provided to develop and provide training programs for Hotel owners /managers and chefs in the area of hotel management supervisory skills , food production and kitchen management to render better services

EXPECTED RESULTS

•  To strengthen the capacity of MoT, and Regional Offices to plan, monitor, and collect data.

•  To enhance the capacity of Hotel and Kitchen Management in Eritrea to render better services.
