    This report defines approaches for the development of standardized baselines in CDM projects on off-grid power generation in sub-Saharan Africa. Standardisation allows for baseline establishment and additionality demonstration for project types in a defined geography, rather than on a project-by-project basis. Standardisation thereby facilitates access to climate finance or carbon markets.

    The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been the most successful global anti-poverty push in history, the report says. Significant and substantial progress has been made in meeting many of the targets—including halving the number of people living in extreme poverty and the proportion of people without sustainable access to improved sources of drinking water. Remarkable gains have been made in the fight against malaria and tuberculosis. There have been visible improvements in all health areas as well as primary education.

    This report, prepared by UNDP's African Facility for Inclusive Markets, describes the status of inclusive business in sub-Saharan Africa and the ecosystems underlying the enterprises and entrepreneurs driving such approaches. It identifies promising opportunities in strengthening these ecosystems, enabling enterprises and entrepreneurs to build more – and stronger – inclusive businesses. While enterprises are the drivers of inclusive businesses, entrepreneurship is required of all societal actors if the surrounding ecosystems are to be developed. Local support institutions are largely absent, and building them will make it considerably easier for inclusive businesses to flourish.

    This paper focuses on the links between gender and climate change adaptation and highlights strategies UNDP's Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP) used to mainstream gender into climate change adaptation policy and increase women's engagement in decision-making. AAP was launched in 2008, with funding from the Government of Japan, and completed implementation at the end of 2012.
